As many are aware following the battle of Microsoft v FTC, the hearings continue to reveal new information regarding the Xbox firm. Part of the documents released from the exchanges in court reveal some of the company’s ambitions from the Activision Blizzard deal. In one respect, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer elaborated that the deal if processed would not drastically affect the console front for Xbox.
Additionally, Spencer in a separate instance stated that the same practices that Sony uses for PlayStation will not be executed by Microsoft if the purchase is completed. However, other statements come at a larger surprise than before. In that, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty as part of an internal email shares intentions to “spend PlayStation out of business” to combat the platform to bolster Xbox Game Pass.
In a new set of documents, it is revealed that part of the Ninja Theory acquisition made back in 2018 was a fairly good deal. In that, it only costed Microsoft $117 million. To put into perspective, that is roughly a third to what Sony did to acquire Insomniac Games. You can view the image below:
The discovery comes as part of the published information revealing Microsoft’s greater acquisition plans. It was reported that the Xbox firm did have intentions to purchase Bungie or even Sega at one point. Of course, these candidates were more so hypothesized internally as the information was never officially revealed until this week.
Another development from the quarrel in the courtroom is one statement from Sony Interactive Entertainment president & CEO Jim Ryan. He expressed that after discussing with multiple publishers, there was a general consensus that Xbox Game Pass was unanimously hated to align with the argument against the ongoing acquisition.
