New Milestone Made With Forza Horizon 5 Welcoming 10 Million Players In Its First Week

Odd to look back now, but Xbox Game Studios broke its pattern for Forza releases. Typically, Playground Games & Turn 10 Studios hand off the torch with each release bounding from Forza Horizon to Forza Motorsport respectively. But, after Forza Horizon 4, it was last July that Turn 10 Studios said it is working on a reboot of the IP. However, production did not halt at Playground Games with Forza Horizon 5 which shipped this month.

And since the game’s early reception, the new Mexico-set festival truly is a hit. “Forza Horizon 5 is the best game in the franchise, and it also might be the perfect arcade racing game,” the summary for our review reads, branded with a 9.8/10 score. More interesting is how roughly 1 million players logged into the game ahead of its official release via the Premium Edition: so Xbox Game Pass did not influence that early counting surprisingly.

However one week later, Forza Horizon 5 reveals that it broke yet another milestone. While Gears 5 proved to be the record holder back in 2019 dethroning 2012’s Halo 4, the November game already shipped with 4.5 players logged in within its first 24 hours. Now, 10 million users have played since launch, Playground Games confirms.

While recognizing that it is an Xbox IP, it is still mind boggling to witness such success from an Xbox Game Studios release. This is not the first Playground Games shattered a precedent. Previously with the release of Forza Horizon 4 on Steam, it instantly became the most-sold racing title on the platform when it launched then.

Noted, despite what was delivered with Forza Horizon 5 is shocking to see the game is absent from nominations for Game of the Year. Perhaps, it is due to the title shipping in November which is way too sudden to be considered and pushed to next year’s show. You can read the full list of nominations by heading here.
