Even before the release for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, there was growing suspicions that this new installment would be the last of annual releases for the game. Although many believed this decision should’ve been implemented years before, the main culprit to blame is Microsoft with its upcoming acquisition for the firm. The latest claim came from @RalphsValve on Twitter back in November last year.
It was not until the following February that more tangible reports surfaced over at Bloomberg. In that, it was said that the following 2023 release from Treyarch would be ushered into 2024. Additionally, a spokesperson said: “We have an exciting slate of premium and free-to-play Call of Duty experiences this year, next year and beyond.” Now, it looks to be piecing together in a new statement from Jason Schreier.
On Twitter, the Bloomberg Tech journalist shares the plans floating into next year is a priced expansion for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II that developer Sledgehammer Games is putting together. He also reaffirms the push for Treyarch’s game to 2024 and Activision’s wording on “premium” content coming to the current release into 2023.
Noted, Activision also made a comment which appears to be directed towards its plans for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II in its latest financial report. “Activision is looking forward to building on its current momentum in 2023, with plans for next year including the most robust Call of Duty live operations to date, the next full premium release in the blockbuster annual series, and even more engaging free-to-play experiences across platforms.”
However, Schreier also rebuts on one rumor that was lingering a few weeks back to be false. In that, the game to follow Treyarch which many already assumed to be in 2024 would be the next Sledgehammer Games title that releases in 2025. From WhatifGaming, it was claimed Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare 2 was part of the roadmap. But, Schrier says that to not be true. You can read the initial report by heading here.
