
Nintendo has been all in on creating movies for its most iconic franchises. In 2023 we received the first Super Mario Bros. Movie which is now getting a sequel in 2026 followed by a Live Action The Legend of Zelda movie that is planned to hit theaters in 2027.
A new copyright filing from Nintendo and Universal Studios that was found today hints at an Untitled Donkey Kong Movie Project. The copyright claim was recorded on June 6, 2026.
The copyright filing found on Public Records shows that Party 1 is Nintendo Studios LLC and Party 2 is Universal Pictures. It’s also noted as a “Short-Form License”.

Obviously, Nintendo or Universal has said anything publicly about a Donkey Kong movie. However, it’s very safe to assume that Seth Rogen will star as Donkey Kong since he voiced the character in the Super Mario Bros. Movie.
This leak comes just days before Donkey Kong: Bananza will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch 2, the first major Donkey Kong release in years. The next few years might finally be the true new era of Donkey Kong, now with a theme park area at Super Nintendo World, a movie, and more.
