Today, Shigeru Miyamoto announced on the official Nintendo social media accounts that the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has been delayed. The Zelda film will now release on May 7, 2027, as opposed to the March 26, 2027 date.
Miyamoto says they want to take sufficient time to make it a great film.
“This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”
Who Will Star As Zelda?
While Nintendo has not announced any of the cast for the Legend of Zelda movie, there has been speculation about the cast of Princess Zelda. Rumors have come out from a reliable insider that Hunter Schafer is a leading candidate to play the iconic role of Zelda.
We are still two years away from the movie and anything reported must be taken with a grain of salt.
While the Zelda movie is slightly delayed, the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel is still planned to release on April 3, 2026. The Mario Movie sequel is rumored to be titled ‘Super Mario World‘.
