Today will officially commence the end of 2019 for the video game industry as this year’s annual Game Awards goes live tomorrow evening. While we reflect on some of the greatest achievements that was produced this year and watch what titles deserve their awards for the respect nominee, we will also witness some projects that are to come later in the upcoming future.
And just in the eve of The Game Awards, Nintendo has tweeted about tomorrow’s award ceremony, encouraging users to watch the show tomorrow to “celebrate a great year in gaming.”
While the post might seem to be innocent enough, this could easily be a ploy for the company to suggest that there will be an announcement primed for tomorrow’s show. Nintendo has a history of major reveals with the yearly live show as seen with prior broadcasts: like in 2017 with the announcement of PlatinumGames’ Bayonetta 3 and last year in 2018 with Atlus’ Persona 5 protagonist Joker joining the battle for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
As for what might be produced from this year’s show, it cannot be dictated what Nintendo will reveal during the event. Looking at fan speculation throughout the community, countless users would suggest that we will see the final character announcement for the first Fighter Pass for Smash Ultimate. Now that Terry Bogard has settled into the game’s roster, this would seem like a fair opportunity to reveal the last addition for the cast of DLC fighters.
Some more precarious predictions would be the upcoming sequel for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Fans are using the same pattern that can be seen with the release of Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask: since both are using the same engine essentially, the second installment would come a lot short than the initial development of the first game. Ultimately, there is no basis for this conjecture so the chances are slim as well for that prediction as well.
One tangible rumor that has been floating around since last year’s Game Awards was the announcement of Metroid Prime Trilogy. Known faces from the industry are aware of its existence and its still a mystery as to why it has yet to be officially revealed by Nintendo. Especially as Metroid Prime 4 will be launch at a later date due to its restart in development, now would be better than ever for fans to get back in motion before the game release.
Interesting enough, former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime will be presenting during the live show at tomorrow’s Game Awards. Although he will most certainly not be revealing anything Nintendo-related, it is a coincidence that he will be at the show.
What do you think might be revealed by Nintendo this year at The Game Awards?
The 2019 Game Awards will go live on Thursday December 12th at 5:30 PM PST / 8:30 PM EST.
