Nintendo Switch Sports has more sales than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for now

Nintendo Switch Sports is over two years old bringing back what we knew as Wii Sports. It never became as popular as its predecessor, but it still sold a good amount of units since it was released on April 29, 2022. As of December 31, 2023, Nintendo Switch Sports unit sales were at over 12.48 million copies and since then have gone up.

While Switch Sports is deemed to be the “worst” version of Wii Sports, it still holds more sales than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. As of February 2024, Sony announced that Spider-Man 2 worldwide unit sales were sitting at 10 million. When the Sony exclusive was released on October 20, 2023, it sold 5 million units in its first 11 days.

Yes, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 can still easily catch up to the sales of Nintendo Switch Sports, but this comes as a surprise given how popular the Spider-Man IP is. Another likely factor is the Nintendo Switch continues to dominate in sales reaching 139 million units sold and is on pace to reach the PlayStation 2.

One thing both of these games have in common for now is they’re exclusive to one platform. Eventually, Spider-Man 2 will likely come to PC and that will help its sales. Switch Sports will forever live on the Switch platform and could attract more sales to new console owners.
