This past week has been chock full of news regarding Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. That is due to the recent Xbox Games Showcase that took place this past Thursday revealing new projects underway from Xbox Game Studios. One being the long-rumored Fable title from Playground Games; sharing that the project is a reboot of the franchise initially developed by Lionhead Studios before being shutdown in 2016.
Another anticipated announcement came from Obsidian Entertainment revealing Avowed. While only a cinematic trailer was issued during the presentation, fans grew excited to see what evolves from this new game coming in the near future. Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty shared that the project has been on the backburner for Obsidian Entertainment before the studio’s acquisition in late 2018.
Despite the brief history of the game being shared, the contents of the title itself was kept short: an fantasy, first-person RPG. However, a new slew of details has emerged recently as user going by the alias Sponger has disclosed new details on the project. While most rumors would be passed off, known Xbox insider @klobrille on Twitter deemed the user to be legitimate.
Among the myriad of information provided, one of the major components in the list is that Avowed will be larger than Bethesda’s The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim. The user tells that the word “larger” does not suit the game appropriately, but “denser” is more appealing to the new project. Even more, the number of factions in Avowed is told to be more in quantity and to operate much differently than Skyrim.
For more context of how the game is laid out, Avowed will hone its emphasis on the world’s Gods – alike Pillars of Eternity has already incorporated well. The world itself is told to be very reactive to how the player explores and to weigh in on the physics with magic playing a major role in gameplay/combat. Two major cities are said to populate the world with smaller villages to fill around and differentiate sections of the map.
One interesting detail is that mod support is being crafted internally. Even more, while PC is a main focus, the user tells that console owners will be able to use a creation tool to incorporate mods into their game as well. The source ends the details with a launch date slated for the second half 2022 or even seep into the following year.
Aside from Avowed taking the spotlight during this past Xbox Games Showcase, Obsidian Entertainment also shared the first expansion – Peril in Gorgon – will be arriving later this fall. You can read the full announcement by heading here.
