Believe it or not, but time has progressed well beyond the initial reveal for Panic’s crank-enabled Playdate handheld more so than we would like. Even more, the pocket-sized device has still yet to hit the market. But, the firm plans to change that in the coming week according to a new announcement on Twitter this Friday.
In that, Panic unveiled a new Playdate Update is to take place this coming Tuesday, June 8. In that, there will be a larger understanding as to when the system will ship alongside what the full package will ship with later then.
Panic does continue in the thread to explain that pre-orders will not immediately go live next week, but is planned to be opened shortly after. “Don’t worry, pre-orders will NOT be starting immediately after the video — we’ll give you plenty of warning before it’s go time. (And thank you so much for even being interested in pre-ordering in the first place.)” The firm also discloses a full list for countries its shipping to has yet to be decided in one response.
Additionally, Panic goes on to explain that the initially promised 12 games for Season One is to be doubled. Now, there is a promised 24-game roster planned to be available when the Playdate ships now. Previously, Panic went on to showcase some projects that developers are working on with some highlighted to be ready for the Playdate’s release later on.
Elsewhere in relation to upcoming handhelds, Analogue’s Pocket is still underway as well. Announced well before the Playdate, the Pocket is currently planned to release later this October after a recent delay earlier this year. You can read the full report by heading here.
