It seems that developer People Can Fly, the studio behind 2011’s Bulletstorm has yet to let go of the idea of a follow-up as shared in a recent interview. In the conversation between gaming outlet Eurogamer and People Can Fly CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski, he shares that a proper sequel has yet to leave the minds of those at the Polish studio.
We are, as you can see [with the remaster and the Switch version], still holding this IP deep in our hearts. We want this IP to have its second life. We’re still not sure what that means but obviously since this is our IP – we own the IP – and the IP is known and has its fans, we would like to do something about it.
Wojciechowski continues on by elaborating that despite the developer still holding interest in a potential sequel, there is nothing set in stone for what is to come for the IP. “We just need to think about how to make sure the audience will be bigger than [Bulletstorm 1’s], and that’s something we would need to work a bit more on going forward with this IP,” the CEO tells Eurogamer. “If, we decide to ever come back to it!”
He then goes on to clarify that with People Can Fly currently developing Outriders, which was revealed at Square Enix’s E3 press conference, the studio has no other projects in development at this time. Interesting enough, the post continues by sharing that the studio amid the pre-production of the 2020 title, have increased staff for Outriders from the initial 30 developers to possibly 300 after pitching the title to Square Enix.
Following the developer reacquiring their independent status from Epic Games, People Can fly brought the concept to the Japanese publisher which Wojciechowski can phrase as “the very beginning of our independence” for the studio. Resulting with the investment needed to bring the AAA title that the developer has envisioned to reality now under Square Enix: sharing that the growth of development is split between four teams – two in Poland, one in the UK, and one in New York.
Bulletstorm is currently out now for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
