Stray Let’s You Play As A Cat In A Cyberpunk Dystopia, Coming To PlayStation 5 First In 2021

Another interesting addition to the PlayStation 5 lineup that was featured during Sony’s recent PlayStation 5 showcase in BlueTwelve Studio’s Stray. While taken at first glance from the trailer, it’s a gritty, cyberpunk metropolis inhabited by robots living in the impoverished city. But as the trailer continues to develop, you learn that the cat that continues to appear in more scenes is the playable character in this new title.

Taken from the neon-saturated areas and high-detailed setting, the game will surely be demanding of new hardware to say the least. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:

Going into detail, developer BlueTwelve explains that the creation of Stray evolved from a series of GIFs that were shared on Twitter dubbed ‘Project HK’. Following the reception of the posts, the team went to start working on bringing their idea to fruition. Then in 2016, the team was approached by Annapurna Interactive to truly bring the title to life and has continued to support the title since then.

“Our goal is to create a unique experience playing as a cat. We are inspired everyday by Murtaugh and Riggs, our two cats. Most of the team are cat owners as well, giving us all a lot of helpful first-hand references. Cats are always so playful, cute and lovingly annoying that it’s an endless stream of gameplay ideas for us,” BlueTwelve Studio Creative Director & Game Director Viv told about Stray.
