Pre-Orders For The Playdate Goes Live next Month In July

Now more than two years ago, Firewatch publisher Panic announced to be making its own video game handheld, the Playdate. While the firm is not developing a console for players to set up in the living room like from Microsoft, Sony, or even Nintendo, the new device is a unique specimen to say the least. For starters, it has a crank attached to its side – and no, it does not charge the handheld.

Although tech enthusiasts were excited to see what could come from the Playdate, it wasn’t until PAX West 2019 that Rectify Gaming understood the amount of excitement that will be delivered with the new device. “Ultimately, my experience with the PlayDate even up to writing this truly grabbed my interest into anticipating for the handheld’s pre-order information officially going up,” the piece concludes by reading.

To fuel the fires even more, Panic this past week scheduled a new ‘Playdate Update’ for Tuesday June 8. In that, the firm unveiled that the Playdate will be available for pre-ordering next month in July. You can watch the full update below:

In the presentation, Panic unveiled more than a handful of titles that will be available in Season One, which are: Time Travel Adventures, Boogie Loops, Casual Birder, DemonQuest 85, Echoic Memory, Executive Golfer DX, Flipper Lifter, Forest Byrnes: Up In Smoke, Hyper Meteor, Lost Your Marbles, Omaze, Pick Pack Pup, Questy Chess, Ratcheteer, Sasquachers, Snak, Spellcorked, Zipper, and Saturday Edition.

Additionally, the firm has also partnered with Return of the Obra Dinn’s Lucas Pope on a new unique project, Midnight After Mars with a brief demonstration. Moreover, Panic is also collaborating with SweetBaby Inc to bring new project to the Playdate from marginalized developers and veteran individuals as well. Even more, Playdate pulp was announced which assists interest users to create their own games.

Most surprising is the Playdate Dock which features a kick stand, magnetic charging space on the front, pen holders, and speaker as well. No details on when the Playdate Dock nor the Playdate itself will be arriving. But, pre-orders will be notified to go live in July over on play.date.
