It was pretty surprising news to discover that Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games will be breaking off from Sony Interactive Entertainment to pursue multi-platform titles back in 2016. Seeing that the British studio will be looking to other projects beyond their 2015 thriller, fans hoped the developer would stick to the genre with their next game in development.
Tracking later into August 2018 at Gamescom, Supermassive revealed their upcoming line of titles The Dark Pictures Anthology: a series of thrilling stories told in the same format as their previous game with choice-based decisions and dialogue options to affect your outcome of the game. The first story ‘Man of Medan’ follows a group of friends who travel to the ocean in search for sunken treasure on a lost ship.
In the most recent trailer for the game, the video runs through some of the choices that players will have the option to pick from as they play Man of Medan. Similar to how Until Dawn functioned, players will have control of the entire cast of characters and will experience the events of the game from different viewpoints which plays into how the game will result.
As deprived of the name for more games to form an “anthology” following this title, future installments will include new characters, settings, and of course different outcomes. Supermassive have yet to discuss what will come following the first piece of the collection.
The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan will be available on August 30, 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
