What looks to be a new high for Amazon with its recent announcement of the firm’s video game streaming platform Luna late last month, there is still some lingering endeavors from the commercial giant that is still present. One being Relentless Games’ Crucible: a free-to-play arena shooter that is currently still in its closed development phase.
Back in July of this year, the studio announced to be retracting its launch of the game back into closed playtesting to resolve the issues which gives the game its mixed review on Steam. Although there is certainly promise for fans to anticipated more improvements down the line, it is a worrisome time with the lacking amount of traction Amazon-published titles make in recent years.
And unfortunately, that seems to be the case for Crucible now. In a new announcement this week, Relentless Games announces that further development has been ceased and dismantled indefinitely.
That evaluation led us to a difficult decision: we’ll be discontinuing development on Crucible. We very much appreciate the way that our fans have rallied around our efforts, and we’ve loved seeing your responses to the changes we’ve made over the last few months, but ultimately we didn’t see a healthy, sustainable future ahead of Crucible. We’ll be transitioning our team to focus on New World and other upcoming projects from Amazon Games.
Relentless Games goes on to clarify that with the soon to arrive addition of custom games, Crucible is not completely dead. While the developer is planning to shutdown online play sometime in the coming weeks. However, servers for custom games will only be running until November 9th, the team shares.
With the project off the assembly line, Relentless Games tells to be transitioning to development for Amazon’s upcoming online RPG, New World. Recently, the team behind the upcoming title announced that the game will face yet another delay ushering the project into a spring 2021 release. You can read the full report by heading here.
