It is no mystery that the many pieces moving in the Embracer Group machine is busy at work with many beloved properties. And this is further layered with the recent acquisition made by the firm of Square Enix’s western talent. Yes, the conglomerate purchased Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal in a buyout of $300 million. The firm added that remasters and other projects are to arrive in this investment.
So far, it was revealed a new Tomb Raider title is in the works with Crystal Dynamics utilizing the newest Unreal Engine 5 game making suite. Additionally, Amazon is to be responsible for plans with Tomb Raider as well. In that, a video game, TV series, and live-action film is reported to be in the works, The Hollywood Reporter tells in a recent story.
Well according to Fellowship of Fans, this arrangement with Amazon is told to be an expansive licensing deal made between both parties. More precisely costing Amazon about $600 million for Embracer Group to lease the property to the firm. The report originally stated the deal to sell the franchise, but has been updated instead for outsourcing to Amazon instead.
“Embracer Group just (update: leased) their ‘Tomb Raider’ rights to Amazon for a deal that we can exclusively reveal as being approximately a 600 Million overall package making it Amazon’s second biggest commitment after purchasing the television rights for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’. Therefore, this puts into perspective the cost and (updated) commitments that Embracer maybe looking for.”
For what Amazon has in its playbook for Tomb Raider ultimately is unclear. One aspect is the growing cloud streaming platform, Luna. Other attributes to fuel its ambitions is the new voice command feature being implemented for games. So far, Dead Island 2 is the first project to welcome this.
