Video game-adapted films continue to add on to the bevy of upcoming projects these past few years as different personalities attempt to bring an ambitious take to what many fans have always dreamt of with a full-length film inspired by some of the worlds that can only be experienced with a controller. However, most of these attempts have unfortunately resulted with very poor translation from one media to the other to capture what grabbed fans initially.
For Disney, this might be something the entertainment conglomerate could overtake and come out successful with the amount of resources at their disposal. Previously, it was detailed at this year’s Star Wars Celebration that the company is looking to expand on the Knights of the Old Republic universe in the coming future, but did not detail how they would approach this specifically.
Now, it looks that we might have the first hitch on what exactly could be set for the Bioware developed RPG. According to Buzzfeed, sources have informed the outlet that a film focused on KOTOR is currently in development with Laeta Kalogridis as the film’s writer. Kalogridis is most known for her work with Avatar and more recently Netflix’s Altered Carbon.
The three sources that spoke with Buzzfeed have also detailed that Kalogridis is nearly done with writing the script for the Knights of the Old Republic film.
Seeing how Game of Thrones’ David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are planned to take on the next trilogy of Star Wars films following this year’s The Rise of Skywalker film, it is unsure when the KOTOR movie will fall towards debuting on the big screen.
