RGG Studio To Reveal Its Next Game At Tokyo Game Show, Sega Registers New Trademark ‘Yakuza Wars’

In the realm of Yakuza/Like a Dragon, developer Ryu Ga Gotoku is still riding on the high that was Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. In our review for the game, we gave it a 10/10 score upon its release. “Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a game that will appeal to both fans and newcomers of the Like a Dragon series, as it provides a satisfying and accessible adventure that can be enjoyed by anyone.”

What’s more, the game surpassed previous records for the IP. Within its first release, the newest installment for the series sold more than 1 million units – a milestone shared with Persona 3 Reload around that same time. Additionally, looking ahead the developer did insinuate that Yakuza Kiwami 3 is on the horizon for the series. However, plans thus far look to be structuring together the next flagship release for the chronological series.

Recently as per the Essence of Fandom event from Anime Expo hosted by RGG Studio, it shared that plans for its next major reveal is coming in September. Specifically, the announcement will take place at Tokyo Game Show this fall – the annual game show held in Tokyo. Details supporting what the next reveal is left for the announcement to confirm later this year.

What could steer towards some understanding on the next project from the Like a Dragon team is a recent trademark filed by its publisher. This week, Sega filed a trademark in Japan as spotted by Gematsu – Yakuza Wars. From the wording of the name, of course Yakuza is picked out. Furthermore is ‘Wars’ in tone with another RPG series from Sega, Sakura Wars. After its transition to turn-based, the next title could be fully embracing hardcore RPG elements.

Another finding online also reveals that RGG Studio is hiring for the next project. Eagle-eyed X user @jack840A pointed out the job listing is asking for candidates familiar with creating props for cars & heavy machinery. The poster does speculate some sort of nod to Yakuza: Dead Souls, but it is likely intertwined with Yakuza Wars whatever the project truly is.
