It was this past July that developer Psyonix shared new information for the future of Rocket League: it was that the car soccer title will be breaking down its pay wall to open up the game as a free-to-play experience. Following an incredible five years since the inception of Rocket League, the game only grew in popularity with multiple platform releases and a seeping at the lid competitive scene for the evergrowing title.
So it would make sense that Rocket League would at some point take down the option to pay for the game seeing how much growing influence backs the game. The only thing left is for the update to convert the title to free-to-play to properly arrive. With a release window for the latter parts of the 2020 summer, fans are awaiting for the news to officially drop.
And now today, Psyonix and publisher Epic Games unveil that the new Rocket League will be arriving in the following week this month. The announcement was shared in a new cinematic trailer which you can view in the video below:
In addition to Rocket League not costing anything for players to enjoy, the game will also be debuting on Epic Games Store the same day that the update goes live. In anticipation for next week, there is an approaching client arriving tomorrow which will offer players some goodies to flaunt for next week. That includes the ‘Legacy status’ swag offered for current owners of Rocket League.
The bundle of in-game items includes “Golden Cosmos Boost, “Est. 20XX” Player Banner, Rocket League-branded DLC, etc.,” Psyonix shares. Tomorrows update will also include a new menu interface, upgraded quick chat, new bot difficulty, and a collaborative Rocket League X Monstercat remixes that will be added to the game’s OST.
With the addition of the update set for next week, Psyonix is said to officially unveil a separate partnership that will be shown then. The undisclosed agreement dubbed ‘Llama-Rama’ looks to be a merge between Rocket League and Fortnite from the image provided. Previously, Psyonix told that the update when live will not require PlayStation Plus or Nintendo Switch Online: you can read the report by heading here.
