While developer Hi-Rez Studios has amassed an empire on live-service titles already with properties like Smite, Paladins, and Realm Royale, the firm until more recently entertained on realistic shooters. That was until the announcement for Rogue Company. From our pre-release hands on: “I can see Rogue Company being a title […] for a hour or two of tactical shout outs, strategic play styles, and memorable last-second moments.”
By October 2020, the game arrived to all major platforms in its free-to-play state. It was not long until Hi-Rez Studios CEO Stewart Chisam shared that Rogue Company was one of the most played titles from the firm in any 24-hour span. Hi-Rez Studios continued its support with even next-generation enhancements for the game that November as well.
But in a new update on Rogue Company, Hi-Rez Studios confirms that support for the game on Nintendo Switch will end this June. As of the announcement going live on April 11th, purchases in-game has been turned off entirely. “After a lot of discussion, thought, and conversations across our team, we’ve made the difficult decision for Rogue Company to end support for our Nintendo Switch version, with our final date of support being June 20th.
“This choice wasn’t made easily or without concern for our community, however we realized that the performance of our Switch port was not up to our standards, and we were unable to provide the level of support our players deserve. This shift allows us to provide players on other platforms better support & focus for their specific issues, as well as deliver updates with more flexibility and frequency whenever needed.
Hi-Rez Studios goes on to explain: “We understand the impact this decision may have on our community and would like to assure you that we have worked diligently to find workarounds for various Switch-specific issues in the past. Unfortunately, significant technical and process challenges prevent us from continuing support for this platform, and we believe this is the best choice for Rogue Company.”
For the future on Rogue Company, it is illustrated that Hi-Rez Studios is still eager to support the game. Just this past fall, the game welcomed a The Walking Dead crossover featuring Rick, Michonne and Negan. You can read the full report by heading here.
