Over at Sabotage Studios, the Canadian-based indie developer launched Ninja Gaiden-inspired The Messenger back in 2018. While fans were cautious when learning that the game is to be a spiritual successor to the 2D aspect of the Koei Tecmo IP, both Director Hideo Yoshizawa and Composer Keiji Yamagishi gave their approval for the new release at the time.
Following the game making its way to winning Best Indie Debut Game at The Game Awards, fans were set to learn where the story will be heading forward from Sabotage. It was last year where the developer announced Sea of Stars. Whilst set within the plot ahead of the release of The Messenger, this new experience clearly brandishes its influence from Chronotrigger this time.
In a new announcement recently, Sabotage on the Sea of Stars Kickstarter announced it will be shipping Sea of Stars next holiday in 2022. Additionally, Nintendo Switch has officially be slated to launch then as well for the new game. You can watch the platform trailer in the video below:
“Since the very beginning, the plan was to release Sea of Stars on Switch. Considering where the game’s main inspirations were played, it naturally follows that it should live on a Nintendo console,” the team shares. “While we were waiting for the proper announcement timing, porting work has been going on for a long time. With quality and polish in mind, we have been proactively optimizing performance on all fronts, making sure the game runs smoothly everywhere.
“In fact, all footage from the trailer was captured directly on Switch!” For those interested can view the game for the Nintendo eShop now. Sabotage also shares it is partnering with Kakehashi Games to localize Sea of Stars for Japan & South Korean players as well.
Previously, Sabotage announced it is collaborating with original Chronotrigger composer Yasunori Mitsuda for Sea of Stars. You can read the full report by heading here.
