One of Microsoft’s most popular live-service titles is arriving to PlayStation 5 later this month. In that, Rare’s Sea of Thieves officially rolls out for the Sony console on April 30th. Note, this marks the first major release ever from Rare on a PlayStation console. Of course, the question now lingering is what does this version of Sea of Thieves offer?
Well, it takes a page from Xbox Series X as it was confirmed recently that Sea of Thieves will be including a 120hz mode. Additionally, there is also DualSense support to offer players a truly grounded impression when playing. Ahead of the game’s release, Sea of Thieves was also marked as the #1 pre-ordered game on the PlayStation Store last month.
In extension to pre-ordering Sea of Thieves, there is one perk to doing so: granting access to a closed beta for the PlayStation 5 version. No matter which version you pay ahead for, you are offered access to the exclusive playtest. But, a date was not scheduled upon the announcement. However, Rare in a new announcement revealed it is set for this coming weekend via an X post.
On the PlayStation 5 Sea of Thieves FAQ, Rare elaborates on the closed beta. It is said progress from your time in the playtest will carryover and is to reward users further in the next season. “Participants in the Closed Beta will be able to earn Renown, currency and cosmetic rewards as part of the Season 11 Seasonal progression track. Their pirate will keep these rewards, and these items will be accessible when the game launches globally at the end of April.
“They will also be awarded 10 levels of Renown towards their Season 12 Seasonal progression track, as a thank you for participating. Closed Beta participants will not be able to engage with the Pirate Emporium, and will only be playing with other PlayStation players during this period. While Trophies will be disabled during the Closed Beta, progress towards them will be tracked, carried over and unlocked appropriately upon launch of the retail version.”
