Although many are skeptical on the mainline series for Sonic the Hedgehog, the save fanbase surrounding Sega’s most prominent mascot does not hesitate to get excited for the newest game on the way. However, little detail regarding the newest game has yet to surface from the publisher nor developer Team Sonic.

Of course, studio head Takashi Iizuka when speaking to Game Informer during E3 2019 did comment that the next tent pole release for the series is planned to launch sometime in 2021. However, there has been some lingering uncertainty thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic affecting development teams already. Even with misinterpretations from fans previously, users are on the edge for an announcement any day now.

Although there was speculation that one voice actor hinted at a potential third for Sonic Adventure, there is no tangible suggestion implicating the project to be coming. But, Sega executive vice-president of game content and services Shuji Utsumi when speaking to Famitsu says an announcement is soon, Twinfinite transcribes.

“A new Sonic game might be announced soon,” Utsumi’s statement reads when loosely crunched through an online translator. Twinfinite does also consider that Utsumi is potentially referring to more than one game, but is uncertain in part due to complicating translating the interview.

Outside of what new flagship release is on the way, there is remnants for what appears to be the 30th anniversary campaign for Sonic the Hedgehog. In that, it was discovered that Sonic Colors Ultimate is in the pipeline as well. The project is first uncovered in Germany, but later verified through a French storefront.
