While the release is left into question how successful Starfield will be – it launching exclusively on Xbox and a fresh IP for Bethesda Game Studios – expectations were certainly awaiting the results from the market. By the time of release, Starfield already met more than 6 million players. Additionally, it was last recorded to face over 10 million players within its first month alone.

Not only that, the game also faced new milestones via Twitch as well. It became the most-streamed console exclusive title on the platform. Not to mention the game’s success on Steam and its own Xbox Store too. The title upon release was recorded #1 despite being included for all Xbox Game Pass owners. Even more, the Premium Edition was on the top of multiple region Xbox storefronts as well.

According to NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella, Starfield is tracked as the most-successful release for the entirety of September 2023. While not the best-selling of this year, Starfield does rank #7 for the overall calendar year.

What is even a bigger surprise is the juggernauts that new IP Starfield faced. Not only was it legacy franchises such as Mortal Kombat 1 and EA Sports FC 24, but it overtook surprising achievements for these titles too. Namely the new replacement for FIFA which recorded more than 11 million units sold within its first two weeks of release.
