The popular tactical, first-person shooter CrossFire has been announced for the big screen this past week. According to a report from variety, South Korean game developer Smilegate revealed to be partnering with Tencent alongside Sony help with the creation of this upcoming motion picture.
Regarding those who will be involved with the coming video game movie, it was shared that Fast and Furious Producer Neal H. Moritz will be responsible for the film’s script. Tencent and Sony’s respected film production divisions are told to be helming the project: Tencent shared to “co-produce and co-finance” the upcoming film.
As for Moritz’s involvement, Variety disclosed that his home-grown Original Film production studio will be producing through the company. For better understanding of the studio’s merit, films like I Am Legend, 21 jump Street, and Total Recall have been manufactured under Original Film.
Adding some clarification, Sony Pictures is involved with the project, not the recently founded PlayStation Pictures. Although this movie is based off of a video game, PlayStation Pictures only produces for first-party properties owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Reverting back to June last year, Smilegate alongside Remedy Entertainment announced CrossFire X: Smilegate will prioritize the online aspects of the title while Remedy is in charge of the story campaign that will launch with the game. You can read the full coverage for the game by heading here.
