Later this November will mark the 4 year anniversary since the release of the PlayStation 5. And while the current console continues to ride on a high wave years later, discussions continue to stir for a mid-generation refresh. Understood to be titled ‘PlayStation 5 Pro’, this new iteration is reported to launch in 2024. Reports did indicate that September is a potential window with a $600 price tag as well.
Although there has yet to be a confirmation on the new system, The Verge did report that the hardware will feature new infrastructure to bring more to players at a technical level. More recently, Dealabs indicated that the system will be revealed this month with an image of the design. Even more is when celebrating the approaching 20th anniversary for PlayStation, Sony hinted at the new console in the artwork.
On Monday, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that Mark Cerny is to return to the spotlight for an all new ‘Technical Presentation’ scheduled for September 10th. “Join us for a streamed presentation hosted by Mark Cerny, Lead Architect of the PS5 console. The 9-minute Technical Presentation will focus on PS5 and innovations in gaming technology,” the description reads.
Additionally, the official PlayStation YouTube channel appears to already leak what the reveal would be. Although not surprising, it is found from the channel that an unlisted video is titled “PS5 Pro”. Gematsu uncovered this finding and upon that being shared online; gaining traction, the video was retitled to which now reads “PlayStation 5 Technical Presentation”.
Atop of this surprise presentation this week, Sony Interactive Entertainment is also expected to host a new State of Play showcase as well. Reports point towards a livestream being hosted at the latter side of September. You can read the full report by heading here.
