In recent news, there has been a lingering claim suggesting that Sony will be reworking the PlayStation Store. And it is almost expected that the firm would do so as the upcoming PlayStation 5 system is less than a month away now. Howbeit, there is more substance to the rumor: players will be unable to purchase games for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.

At the time, it was undetermined if the claim was true or not. But seeing the age of the aforementioned platforms, it does seem logical for the firm to stop especially as Sony is not prioritizing support to play the respected titles on the next-generation console. Even more, Sony has illustrated to eventually abandon the PlayStation 3 as it dropped titles from the PlayStation Plus free game program altogether.

Now in light of the new PlayStation Store underway for arrival very soon, Sony Interactive Entertainment has sent out an email disclosing the storefront to not provide the ability to purchase said games. “The content list above will no longer be available buy on the PS Store when accessed via a desktop or mobile device,” the email reads after listing PSP, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in the disclaimer.

While users will be unable to make purchases for the mentioned platforms, that does not mean the items will be delisted from the PlayStation Store altogether. Sony does clarify that games and other applications will still be available for purchase when visiting the store on the respected unit. But the opportunity will not be there on the newer hardware.

This week, Sony Interactive Entertainment offered a full overview for the new UI established for the PlayStation 5. Players can utilize the new features as presented in the State of Play showcase and is told that the PlayStation Store will be fully integrated onto the console when it arrives.
