
This generation looks to have slowly taken a greater turn for the state of the Xbox first-party studio network. Although players will be waiting well into the duration of the approaching Xbox Series X for unique properties to be introduced to the platform, there are some notable developers involved with the mix. Teams like Ninja Theory and the latest entry of Double Fine Productions surely is moments that many would not predict to occur under the company’s jurisdiction.
Altogether, there are currently 15 first-party developers that make up Xbox Game Studios. Or so we thought according to the General Manager of Game Developer Experiences. Kevin Gammil during today’s Game Stack Live, a virtual alternative to discuss developer tools which was initially planned to take place at GDC, shared that there are 16 teams under Xbox Game Studios.

What’s unique about gaming at Microsoft is that we build the tools for game developer and then we use them across our 16 first-party studios to actually create games. We recognize game development is about pushing technology to its absolute limits.
Simply taken from the sentence made by Gammil does not form a foundation to support fact, but there is enough room to suggest there is more on the surface. Although what he said could be considered simply an accident is certainly on the table, many online deter this instance to be a mishap regarding more knowledge that has yet to be disclosed by the console giant. This speculation suggests that there is another studio acquisition yet to be announced.
Going back to the matter that this could potentially just be a big misunderstanding, it should be noted that Microsoft has slipped in a similar instance previously. Director of Programming Larry Hryb made the same mistake revealing undisclosed information when sharing Janemba’s addition to the Dragon Ball FighterZ roster before being properly announced. This being to a smaller scale nonetheless is still of the same degree.
