For players who have already lived through the first journey of Respawn Entertainment’s Cal Kestis should be familiar with how the November-released Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order is propped to include a following sequel which we can expect in the coming years. But now, it looks that we have official confirmation that the game will be directed into a new franchise as shared by publisher CEO Andrew Wilson.
During this week’s earnings call, the Electronic Arts President shared that the new Star Wars entry will evolve into a larger series later down the line. When revealing that more than 10 million players have tackled the new story from the team responsible for Titanfall & Apex Legends, he breaks the news.
More than 10 million unique players have joined the game since launch, a rare achievement for the first title in an entirely new franchise. It’s a meticulously well-crafted game, and it continues to give fans a deeply-engaging and original Star Wars experience.
Again, this certainly does not come off much of a surprise seeing how well-received the title happened to be and especially with the developer behind the project as well. Just recently, a report went out which suggests that Jedi: Fallen Order’s sequel will actually fall later on in 2022. With that, it does raise the question if we will actually see the full franchise later on as the publishing license for Star Wars expires the following year in 2023.
Bespin Bulletin that shared the details speculated that the likeliness of Star Wars: Battlefront III is fairly unlikely despite the turn around the game received following its initial release in 2017. Even more, the Instagram page also questions if Electronic Arts will manage to acquire a new deal with Lucasfilm to renew the publishing agreement, but shows confident that Respawn’s property will be prioritized if that does occur later on.
This week also happened to host May the Fourth, an annual Star Wars holiday where fans enjoy all media behind the film series. During that, Respawn Entertainment revealed that a new surprise update will drop that day offering New Journey +, meditation challenges, and added cosmetics to earn from playing.
