Star Wars Squadrons Creative Director Shares No Post-Launch DLC Planned For The Title

When it came time to this year’s EA Play Live which took place in June, fans were overly ecstatic to learn that EA Motive is bringing a surprise Star Wars title, Star Wars Squadrons. The game was illustrated to be a spin on the previous Star Wars entries solely focused on space battles and dog fighting, but reiterated to meet the standards on this generation’s hardware.

And just releasing last week on October 4th, there is some new details on the future for Star Wars Squadrons: there really isn’t. Well, not completely says Creative Director Ian Frazier. When speaking to UploadVR, he discloses that Star Wars Squadrons was structured to be a one-time release with no intention to supply more content in post-launch.

Never say never, so to speak, but as far as our philosophy goes we’re not trying to treat the game as a live service. We don’t want to say, ‘It’s almost done!’ and then dribble out more of it over time, which to be honest is how most games work these days. So we’ve tried to treat it in kind of an old-school approach saying, “You’ve paid the $40, this is the game and it’s entirely self-contained. We’re not planning to add more content, this is the game, and we hope you understand the value proposition.”

Frazier continues by explaining that despite the near limitless canvas available for Star Wars Squadrons, the team at EA Motive did not dip its toes into truly expanding the on the possibility to incorporate more content. “From pretty early on we wanted to be a space combat game, emphasis on space.

“So even though we do go into the outer atmosphere of Yavin Prime, we never go anywhere truly terrestrial because we wanted to separate the game in that flavor.” Left a little curious, UploadVR asked Frazier if Star Wars Squadrons could expect a port for Oculus Quest, where he responds saying the plans are not on the table as a standalone project.
