With the recent announcement of Telltale and Netflix’s partnership with the reveal of an Stranger Things game adaptation on the way, said in an report by Variety that Telltale Games will be adopting the Unity Engine for the newly announced game.
Telltale has been using their Telltale Tool engine for almost a decade with their most known titles like Back to the Future: The Game and Tale from the Borderlands. The last title to be using the original engine before switching to Unity will be The Walking Dead: The Final Season. As this being the last installment in the series won’t be a drastic change as the first episode is releasing this August.
Along with the Stranger Things title to be running on Unity, the recently delayed The Wolf Among Us: Season 2 will be introduced to this change also. Reasoning for this change came resulted from former Telltale CEO and co-founder Kevin Bruner as Variety states he’s the source of an “hostile work environment he fostered and why the company made some of its poor decisions”. That Telltale was suffering from the Telltale Tool with poor scoring and an engine that didn’t age well. But with the recent partnership and new CEO, Telltale is on their way to resolving what was left on them.
For when we will see Telltale’s work in the Unity engine is undetermined, but it’s lucky to guess it will be with The Wolf Among Us: Season 2. With this sequel being announced nearly a year ago, it’s expected we’ll get a trailer before the recently announced Netflix title.
