The Anniversary Themes Are Gone On PlayStation 5, But Sony Says It Plans To Return In The Future

This past fall, PlayStation wasted no time to celebrate. In that, the firm commemorated thirty years since the birth of the platform. Part of the announcement was a line of themed consoles & accessories that takes after the grey paint job of the console that kickstarted this lineage. As for so of the peripherals, the sought after 30th Anniversary DualSense controller would cost $79.99 if you were lucky to purchase one.

Additionally, the firm did take precautions for those trying to pay ahead for these items. In Japan, users were only eligible to purchase if you played for a certain amount of time prior to the reveal for the products. For all users, Sony Interactive Entertainment went a step further with a unique boot-up that reminisces on all four generations before the PlayStation 5.

Noted, it was always understood that the themes would only be available for a limited-time on PlayStation 5. In a new update this week, the PlayStation firm has address that the plan to remove them is Friday January 31st. However, what is more exciting is that PlayStation is working to have these nostalgic themes return in the future.

“Thank you for the fantastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes, which will be leaving tomorrow. Due to the positive response on these 4 themes, we’re doing some work behind the scenes to bring these special designs back in the months ahead,” PlayStation writes on its official X post.

Despite the outcry from fans that PlayStation 5 would be experiencing themes nearly 5 years into its lifespan – and after it was a feature on PlayStation 4 – there is no plans to release any more aside from the anniversary ones. “While there aren’t plans to create additional themes in the future, we’re excited to keep celebrating legacy PlayStation hardware with you all.”
