When it comes to PlayStation hardware this year, there has been some questionable things that Sony Interactive Entertainment is pursuing recently. The elephant in the room is the PlayStation 5 Pro. Costing users $699 for the mid-generation refresh before the additional cost of a disc drive & vertical stand does leave many to reconsider the upgrade until the next-generation drops.
On the topic of new hardware, Sony Interactive Entertainment did break headlines elsewhere recently. From Reuters, the platform almost established a partnership with Intel on manufacturing processors for the PlayStation 6. But with continued backwards compatibility support, it sided with AMD once again.
This year also marks the celebration for 30 years of PlayStation. Sony used this opportunity to hint at the PlayStation 5 Pro at the time. Now, it revealed a new ‘PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection’ including specialized PlayStation 5 consoles and accessories. You can watch the trailer in the video below:
“The new limited edition designs pay homage to 30 wonderful years of gaming, a journey made possible by the passion and support of our fans and talented game developers. Reminiscent of the very first PlayStation console to launch on December 3, 1994, this limited edition offering utilizes the original PlayStation color design and integrates it into the latest line of PS5 hardware products,” Sony Interactive Entertainment platform business group CEO Hideaki Nishino says.
The collection includes: PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle, PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle, PlayStation Portal Remote Player – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition, DualSense Edge Wireless Controller – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition, and DualSense Wireless Controller – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition. Only 12,300 units of the PlayStation 5 are said to be minted.
