The Game Awards 2021: Sonic Frontiers Title Unveiled, Slating The Mainline Release For Holiday 2022

For fans scattering in excitement regarding Sonic the Hedgehog receiving a new title, it is still uncertain the direction is for the new flagship release. For one, the game is said to be hopefully received alike the previous Sonic Adventure IP, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka told in one interview. Other leaks that appeared to align with early leaks disclosed that the new game will be an open-world experience as well.

However, the game then was expected to be titled ‘Sonic Rangers’ after a redacted press release from Sega shared the title. However, the game would instead be dubbed ‘Sonic Frontiers’ according to a later trademark filed by Sega in Japan previously. As for new details on the game, it was speculated to be at The Game Awards as per a tweet from host Geoff Keighly for a “double header” from Sonic the Hedgehog.

Even more, Sonic the Hedgehog voice actor Roger Craig Smith poked at his followers to watch the Thursday show. Now, it if officially here with the confirmation for Sonic Frontiers being the name. You can watch the new trailer in the video below:

Additionally, The Game Awards also presented the first full-length trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The coming motion picture reveals Tails and Knuckles are both part of the new production with a feud between our favorite hedgehog and the red echidna as well.
