While many fans remain adamant to grow excited for each Sonic the Hedgehog, the same lot also anticipate the new game to meet expectations rather than simply shipping another installment in the string of entries throughout the decades of the franchise. Following Sonic Forces on one side along with Sonic Mania, there is an interesting future ahead for Sega’s mascot looking forward.
Previously, Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka originally hinted at a release for 2021 this year, that did not happen to be the case as a result. During the Sonic Central celebration earlier this year, Sega & Sonic Team unveiled a new entry aimed for 2022 and is currently left unnamed. However, in a later report is revealed to possibly be dubbed ‘Sonic Rangers’ as per a retracted press release from Sega themselves.
But in a recent finding from Gematsu, Sega has trademarked one Sonic the Hedgehog property – Sonic Frontiers. The filing took place back on October 22 and was not officially release to the public until November 9th. But, there is no direction leaning towards what the new trademark entails. However, it is possible this is in preparation for the 2022 Sonic the Hedgehog title.
In terms of the upcoming project, Iizuka spoke on the matters of the new game with insight on the decisions for the title. For one, he purposefully decided on 2022 for a better window to release the game to “lay the foundation” for future games. He adds that the aim for the untitled release is hoped to leave an impression that the Sonic Adventure series left two decades ago.
Recently, Sonic the Hedgehog broke the sound barrier into Monster Hunter Rise. The update adds a Tails Palimute costume and a Sonic the Hedgehog getup for Palico. The companion when equipped with the new suit can also speed dash which is a welcomed feature. You can read the full report by heading here.
