Well over a month ago, it was unfortunately leaked to many anticipated fans for Naughty Dog’s sequel The Last of Us Part II which disclosed sensitive information derived for the story campaign of the first-party title. But despite what users were met with online, the studio responsible for the then-approaching follow-up insisted that players will forgive the upsetting spoiling when experiencing the game in their hands in the coming month.

And so did many fans, but the game following the influx of perfect scores from media outlets were bombarded with negative reviews that many users felt just from the substance of the story and lack of advancement from its 2013 predecessor. And while that is its own controversy by itself, Sony has returned to announce that The Last of Us Part II as of its first three days sold 4 million copies.

In a new blog post today, Sony Interactive Entertainment shares that the sequel atop of its swiftly-earned achievement has also been graced to being the fastest-selling first-party title unique to the PlayStation 4 platform. Neil Druckmann – Director for The Last of Us Part II – also left a message to the fans who have been playing:

The Last of Us Part II was made possible thanks to the efforts of the hundreds of talented and passionate developers here at Naughty Dog. We can imagine no greater honor than seeing that same passion mirrored by the people playing it. Thank you for helping us reach this amazing milestone.

Especially witnessing the current outcry of disappointed fans that have not agreed with the direction of the title, it is reassuring to see that many players are still enjoying the title elsewhere and even more from this new milestone for both Naughty Dog and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

And the train does not look to stop just yet as Sony’s next anticipated titles are set to arrive this July. One being the delayed Marvel’s Iron Man VR from Camouflaj and Sucker Punch Productions Ghost of Tsushima – both will surely continue the excitement of exclusive titles for the PlayStation 4 with the following months leading to the PlayStation 5 this coming holiday season.
