Ubisoft has canceled its upcoming free-to-play shooter, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland. The news broke when staff at Red Storm Entertainment were emailed about the cancellation ahead of the publisher’s earnings call.

Here is the statement Ubisoft provided to Insider Gaming:

“After careful consideration, we have made the tough call to halt development on Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, effective immediately”

“Our priority now is to support the talented team members at our Red Storm Entertainment studio, who will be transitioning to new projects within our company, including XDefiant and Rainbow Six.”

The Division Heartland was announced in 2021 with plans to release in 2022, but the game had several delays since then. Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 is still in early development and remains part of Ubisoft’s plans.

On the same day, Ubisoft officially revealed Assassin’s Creed Shadows bringing the franchise back to Japan this November. XDefiant is finally releasing on May 21, 2024, after Ubisoft San Francisco experienced issues getting the new free-to-play first-person shooter ready for launch. The new game is expected to compete with games like Call of Duty.
