V1 Interactive Announces Official Closing For Disintegration’s Online Matchmaking This November

When coming off the rails of the Halo train back in 2011, Marcus Lehto departed from Bungie following the release of Halo Reach. And while his leaving of the team only last a few months until returning; Lehto officially withdrew from the studio in 2012 with endeavors to pursue independent game development. Since then, Lehto’s ambitions to create a new gaming experience did not arise until Gamescom 2019.

That is where him and the 2016-founded V1 Interactive unveiled Disintegration. Set on a dystopic planet Earth as man is consumed by machine, those that ‘integrated’ their being into robotic shells construct a civil war against the human race to eliminate those that stick out. The title when in action illustrates an advancement of Bungie DNA that even breaks the sound barrier against Master Chief.

The title arriving in June left with above average reception and room for improvement. Given there is a full-length story mode, most players picked up the game for the multiplayer knowing the brain power behind Disintegration. But less than a year since its release, V1 Interactive announced this week that online for the game will be shutting down in November.

We have made the difficult decision to remove Disintegration’s multiplayer modes from the game across all platforms. This will be done in phases over the coming months, starting today with the removal of the in-game store, and will conclude on November 17th with the full removal of multiplayer. The single player campaign will remain fully playable moving forward.

Expanding on the source to the decision, V1 Interactive shares that players did not visit the multiplayer enough to solidify dedicated userbase to further support the mode. So now, the developer will slowly be dismantling online support for the game leading into mid November according to the blog post.

Although not much else was spared on the subject matter, V1 Interactive does write that it will further its ambitions to break the norm with newer pursuits and bold approaches. “We believe the video game industry needs constant innovation, and we will continue to take risks, follow creative visions, and support new ideas,” the team discloses.

Did you play Disintegration’s multiplayer earlier this year?

Disintegration is out now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
