Drawing attention to the Steam Deck recently, the PC-based handheld device is officially in the hands of pre-order holders. Not only that, but the new device also welcomed a new game for users across Steam. A new definitive experience oriented for the Steam Deck is Aperture Desk Job: a new short game set in the Portal universe.
The history behind the Steam Deck faced some uncertainty a few months prior with the handheld being delayed due to “supply chain issues” back in fall 2021. Additionally, Valve wanted to squander any comparisons to the Nintendo Switch ahead of release as well. Not to denounce the similar hybrid handheld console, but that it is aiming for a different audience altogether instead.
But, it appeared the two are similar in some respect. Alike the Joy-Con controllers, the Steam Deck analog sticks are already finding issues with drifting. But, Valve Steam Deck designer Lawrence Yang announced a patch is being sent out that resolves the issue with ‘deadzone regression’.
In terms of the Nintendo Switch, the handheld turned five this month and issues remain to loom regarding any resolution to analog drift for its controllers. Previously, Nintendo pledged to repair the first pair of controllers for each Nintendo Switch owner. But, new models/iterations still face the same problem appearing to present little difference with new products internally.
Last year, many fans went on to believe that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Joy-Cons did fix this long-plaguing issue. But, YouTuber Spawnwave went on to discover that the problem was not appropriately fixed. You can read the full report by heading here.
