Although the Nintendo Wii U introduced Hyrule Warriors back in 2014, Nintendo decided to follow-up on the series with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Told to be the precursor to which is later The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, many fans did not anticipate another game to surface, but, did appreciate more context surrounding the 2017 release.
Later on in February earlier this winter, Nintendo mapped out a roadmap of content for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to include waves of additions to take place throughout the course of the year. In June would be the first increment of content for the title. During the Nintendo E3 Direct, the publisher showcased the content for the first add-on.
Wave 1 ships on June 18th. You can watch the gameplay trailer in the video below:
“The Expansion Pass kicks off with an expanded roster, newly added weapon types, and some challenging enemies,” the overview shared for the DLC. “Stop by the Royal Ancient Tech Lab to test yourself with new challenges that unlock weapons and helpful features. Then, dominate the battlefield as the new playable Battle-Tested Guardian or try out the added weapon types—the Flail for Link and Master Cycle for Zelda. These new combat styles will come in handy in the new Apocalyptic difficulty and against added enemies like the bomb-throwing Moblin and a Giant Chuchu.”
The livestream also closed with new footage for what is presumably titled, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2. While not entirely encapturing what the full experience will directly be, Nintendo was nice enough to reveal a 2022 release window for the highly-anticipated sequel.
