Although Xbox’s standing in the console race continues to plateau, the firm’s effort into mobile gaming is still driving strong with Microsoft’s backing. Back in July, the official webpage for the Xbox Mobile app went live. With the storefront beginning to take form, it won’t be long until games will be available for purchase on via the app. This week, the Xbox firm confirmed that it is on the way as soon as November this fall.
Additionally, Microsoft plans to also fully integrate its Game Pass subscription into the app as well. So for those that still use the Xbox Game Pass client, Microsoft plans to sever support by November as well. One promise that is still on standby is compatibility for purchase library on Xbox Cloud Gaming. Back in February, Phil Spencer shared with one questioning fan that support is still set to release later in 2024.
Now according to sources that spoke with The Verge, the move to properly support your Xbox purchase library for xCloud is coming in November. This has remained a prolonged wait for fans since Microsoft announced that plans to enable streaming your purchase library via the cloud all the way back in 2022. And now it is planned to at least enter Xbox Insider rings by next month.
According to the outlet, the effort is codenamed ‘Project Lapland’ internally at Microsoft and the development now says server infrastructure is being readied for baseline testing. One reason for the wait is Microsoft’s continued support for streaming thousands of games on its network. Now with more server blades, this can finally be realized for many.
Of course, Microsoft is eager to finally launch this feature and views it as a necessity for the platform. Back in August 2023, it was shared by Spencer that Microsoft’s future in gaming revolves around the success in mobile gaming. Although console has its own standing, mobile is the port for success moving forward. You can read the full report by heading here.
