Although it sounded so outlandish initially, the idea of Kojima Productions to partner with Microsoft does still create excitement for players on the platform. Last year, GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb made claim on the arrangement is in the discussion phase between the Metal Gear Solid creator & the Xbox firm. It was in a later statement that Grubb shared a letter of intent was signed by Kojima to follow through with the plan.
Additionally, word broke out later on disclosing that the project – which we have little information on – is to be part of Microsoft’s larger initiative to develop unique titles for Xbox Cloud Gaming. The firm this spring launched a new publishing brand exclusively for the cloud streaming platform.
At the Xbox + Bethesda Showcase, Microsoft unveils that the alleged rumor is in fact legitimate and is in actively development. You can watch the segment of the show in the video below:
“Yes, there is a game I’ve always wanted to make. It’s a completely new game, one that no one has ever experienced or seen before,” Hideo Kojima shared during the presentation. “I’ve waited very long for the day when I could finally start to create it. With Microsoft’s cutting edge cloud technology and the change in the industry’s trend, it has now become possible to challenge myself to make this never-before-seen concept.”
“Today, we announced a partnership between Xbox Game Studios and Kojima Productions to create a video game for Xbox like no one has ever experienced or seen before leveraging the power of the cloud. Hideo Kojima is one of the most innovative and creative minds in our industry we can’t wait to share what our teams will create together,” Xbox Wire Editor-in-Chief Will Tuttle writes in the blog post.
Recently, a new leak surfaced unveiling Kojima Productions’ next major IP to be dubbed ‘Overdose’. The supposed title is to star Death Stranding’s Margaret Qualley and feature more thrilling elements closer to Silent Hill. Following the report, Kojima Productions requested the story to be taken down verifying the legitimacy of the piece. It is unsure if that is Kojima’s planned project for Xbox or not.
