Xbox Series Lifetime Hardware Sales Track Behind Its Predecessors, New Report Shares

Although there has been a continued surge in sales for Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S dual SKU console generation, the platform still resides behind the competition. Currently, the PlayStation 5 remains at a doubling 46.6 million units. The last official recording for Xbox Series units was accounted back in the summer in Brazil tallying a total of roughly 21 million units. However, there has been countless reports telling the firm has witnessed record sales in recent time.

In that, it was reported earlier this summer that Xbox Series X|S sales were facing a growth in units sold following the celebration for Call of Duty servers being repaired for legacy Xbox 360 titles. Additionally, Starfield was also said to be a unit seller for Xbox as well. Upon release, the system was touted to playing a big role in hardware sales both in the U.K. as well as on Amazon also.

However, despite these reports, it even remains outpaced compared to preceding hardware. In a report on Twitter from NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella, the Xbox Series X|S in terms of lifetime sales this far remains in last place compared to prior Microsoft consoles.

It is noted that the account 36-month lifespan so far for the Xbox Series X|S is ranked second pacing right behind the 8th generation Xbox One. But, there is still room for improvements, Piscatella adds. “The current generation consoles have a long life left, and a lot can/will change over the course of the coming years,” he shares at the end of the thread.

But how much can Microsoft do to push hardware? Previously, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer admitted that Microsoft officially placed third in the “console war” against Sony & Nintendo. You can read the full report by heading here.
