Since the transition for Microsoft & Sony Interactive Entertainment initially began for the next-generation of consoles – Xbox Series & PlayStation 5 – both firms to some extent supported cross-generation buying for software on each family of consoles. Over at the Xbox company, Smart Delivery was introduced to carry over current and new games with respected enhancements for the latest Microsoft console.
As for the PlayStation firm, it did confirm there will not be a direct Smart Delivery-like feature. Instead respective developers will make the decision to honor last-generation purchases for newer hardware or not. As for certain parent companies, Take-Two Interactive was not in favor of the idea. With the release of NBA 2K21, the firm told that the decision to jump to $70 for newer games is to match the “quality of the experience.”
Additionally, it was also spared in a separate statement from CEO Strauss Zelnick that explained consumers are prepared for a price increase after a decade since the last time. When it comes to Grand Theft Auto V, it was believed that would be a different story – at least for GTA Online. The firm revealing its then-November launch time frame told that the online component would be free for the first three months on PlayStation 5.
Then it was understood that the promotion would carry over to Xbox after the initial period. But, the pre-load for Grand Theft Auto V this week reveals that to not be the case. On the Xbox Store, Grand Theft Auto V is priced at $39.99. However, pre-ordering will be on sale for $19.99 in the first three months of launch. GTA Online can also be purchased separately for $9.99 at arrival, but will revert to $19.99 after the period.
Over on PlayStation, Grand Theft Auto V is priced the same at $39.99. However the purchasing within the first three months is 75% off for $9.99. Of course, GTA Online will be a free installation for the first three months and returns to the slated $19.99 after. Rockstar Games also gives a rundown for the new versions in a Rockstar Newswire post which you can visit by heading here.
