Stepping back to September 2018, we can find what might be the catalyst for THQ Nordic’s acquisition hunger as the Austrian publisher initially kicked off the spree with purchasing the properties for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. Follow suit as we are all familiar well over a year now, the firm has went on to obtain other recognized projects as well which goes from some we might expect to some unexpected additions.
That same year in November, the company went on to acquire the team responsible for the Goat Simulator experience and its tailing expansions, Coffee Stain Studios. Alongside, THQ Nordic also picked up Wreckfest team Bugbear Entertainment also. A more recent acquisition in December of 2019 revealed that THQ Nordic also purchased the publishing rights to Tarsier Studios, the developer responsible for Little Nightmares.
Now this week, it was uncovered over on the Xbox Store that the remaster for the 2012 title Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is on its way for release later this summer. Previously, it was shared when speaking with Eurogamer that former publisher Electronic Arts would have to initiate the go for development of this reworking, but seeing the game on the storefront shows and agreement was met and developer Kaiko went right to work.
“The hit RPG returns! From the minds of the bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion lead designer Ken Rolston, comes Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Remastered with stunning visuals and refined gameplay Re-Reckoning delivers intense, customizable RPG combat inside a sprawling game world,” the description reads for the game’s listing.
It was not too long ago that the Xbox Store also unveiled new titles prematurely. At the time, we witnessed both listings for Mafia: Definitive Edition alongside Mafia II: Definitive Edition appear. While the latter is out now, the first title is still waiting to be shipped, scheduled for this coming August. As of reporting, THQ Nordic has yet to comment on the listing’s discovery.
