The last time we spoke about Yakuza coming to Xbox, it was back in May when Microsoft announced that the latest entry – Yakuza 7: Like A Dragon – would be coming to Xbox One with an optimized version for the approaching Xbox Series X as well. However, prior to that announcement, fans were still concerned with the current promise that was made to bring the first trilogy of titles to the Microsoft Store.
Just the month before, Microsoft announced that Yakuza Kiwami would be arriving to Xbox One & Windows 10 alongside the addition Xbox Game Pass on both platforms. Now, the aforementioned commitment to bring the inaugural trilogy to the Xbox platform will finally be met as the firm has announced that Yakuza Kiwami 2 is on the way later this month.
The announcement comes from the official Sega Europe Twitter account revealing that the 2017-released title will be shipping to both Xbox One and Windows 10 on the last Thursday of July.
“Kazuma Kiryu thought his Tojo Clan days were behind him. He and the young girl in his care, Haruka Sawamura, have built a peaceful life from the ashes of conflict. All it took was a single gunshot to shatter that peace,” the synopsis for the sequel reads on its Steam Page. “Yukio Terada, the Fifth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, has been assassinated.
“With war on the horizon, the legendary Dragon of Dojima is pulled back into the world he wanted to leave behind. Kiryu must travel to Sotenbori, Osaka in an attempt to broker peace between the rival clans, but Ryuji Goda, known as the Dragon of Kansai, will stop at nothing to get his war. In this world, there can only be one dragon.”
Looking ahead, hopefully Microsoft is currently discussing with Sega to release the second lineup of titles for Xbox-powered platforms. In that, players could expect the addition of Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, Yakuza 5, and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. With the seventh mainline installment already announced, it is presumed that Microsoft would fill the gap between that title and the one releasing at the end of this month.
