The Nintendo Switch 2 has been the talk over the last few weeks with new reports coming out that the new Nintendo console was being shown off behind closed doors at Gamescom 2023. Eurogamer and Video Games Chronicle came out providing details about what was shown and what we could expect from the next generation Switch.
Most recently, known Nintendo insider, Nate the Hate shared information on the Switch 2. Zelda: Breath of the Wild was one of the demos being showcased and it reportedly ran at 4K 60fps with instant load times compared to the roughly thirty-second loading times on the original Nintendo Switch. The Matrix demo that was shown off looked the exact same as it does on next-gen consoles like Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, but the ray tracing was apparently better, but that might be because it was running on a PC or dev kit with similar specs.
Nate also shared on his podcast that March 2024 was a time window being talked about at Gamescom, but was not unsure if it was the reveal date or release date. Keep in mind the original Nintendo Switch was released on March 3, 2017.
Apparently, no one is sure of backwards compatibility yet, however, other leaks have indicated the console will feature backwards compatibility and a new cartridge format. In that same report, it was mentioned that the Final Fantasy VII Remake was playable running similar to the PlayStation 5 version and it’ll launch with the new Nintendo console.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored to be released in late 2024 and devkits were already sent to key partner studios.
