While an exciting feat for Microsoft in its $70 billion purchase for Activision Blizzard King, the firm has yet to reaffirm the future of this acquisition as of yet. In fact, it has done the complete opposite. Earlier this spring, the Xbox firm revealed its closure for four Bethesda teams: Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog Games, Arkane Austin, and Roundhouse Studios. And while the studios slowly went under, Krafton this week shared to be acquiring the Japanese firm.
Elsewhere, we witnessed talent stray away from the publisher post-acquisition. After a worrying turn of events, game studio Toys for Bob shared it is going independent from its parent company. Additionally, we did witness new teams arise as well. This year, it was revealed that a new team ‘Elsewhere Entertainment’ is a new narrative-focused team.
In a recent report from Windows Central, it is indicated that Activision & Microsoft has formed another team. While not officially announced, the outlet does signify that staffing has been arranged for a smaller scale operation. The new talent is said to put its focus on established IPs shared between its list of properties at an ‘AA’ standard.
More specifically, this new division is comprised of employees from King whilst established by Blizzard Entertainment, Windows Central shares. It is understood that the direction with King team members at this new sector is to boost more attention to mobile gaming. This does play a part in the recent Xbox Mobile Store which the domain went live recently.
What’s more, sources explain to Windows Central that this new approach is to battle climbing costs for AAA development. The effort also enables the Xbox firm to undertake new standing similar to its competitors, “Nintendo-style”, the outlet puts in its own words.
