Activision’s earnings call for Q4 2018 revealed a handful of high achieved numbers for the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise. With Black Ops 4 from launch until December 31st has reached record high sales by out selling series’ predecessor Black Ops 3, console sales reaching up 40% and outselling Call of Duty: WWII by 30%. With Black Ops 4 having a successful start talks about the next title in the franchise are already starting.
Publisher President Rob Kostich during the earnings call revealed that Infinity Ward will be returning for the upcoming title and officially announced that the studio will reintroduce the single-player campaign after Treyarch dropped the mode in Black Ops 4.
The concept of story campaign making a return to Call of Duty was already known from the recent discovery on Infinity Ward’s job listings. But for what Infinity Ward is tackling for the basis for the 2019 title currently has not been discussed. Speculation from fans seem to see that the developer could be returning to Modern Warfare according to a tweet from Infinity Ward’s Senior Communications Manager.
Amid the shortly awaited return of single player campaign, Activision as of February 12, 2019 has relieved roughly 800 employees from the company despite the publisher’s outstanding financial performance.
