Despite the last release of the series being a sour note for many fans, players still cried out for a new installment in the Saints Row series. It was not until Gamescom 2021 that Saints Row, a reboot of the series, was announced. Scheduled for a February release, players can engage in an entirely new city with a fresh batch of characters with Volition once again at the helm. But, the game was ushered to a new release date aimed for the following August.
In the midst of the wait, complaints were hoping to revise the story structure of the new cast. Howbeit, Volition stated to be confident in its direction the series was heading. Then came the release of the game as Rectify Gaming ranked it a 8/10 at the time. “The core game, the characters, and the gameplay are all top-notch. It may seem like a throwback to some, but Saints Row provides the perfect blend of story and fun the series desperately needed,” we wrote.
But, the overall reception of Saints Row has left Volition to transition to a new home under the Embracer Group conglomerate. In that, the team will transition from Plaion (Koch Media) to Gearbox Entertainment, Video Game Chronicles transcribes in a statement.
The reception of Saints Row did not meet the full expectations and left the fanbase partially polarized. The game development studio, Volition, has been working hard to improve the player experience. Financially, Saints Row has performed in line with management expectations in the quarter.
Lars Wingefors, Embracer Group CEO
“Going forward, Volition will transition to become part of Gearbox which has all the tools, including an experienced management team in the US, to create future success at Volition. This is the first internal group transfer where we transfer a major studio between operative groups, but it is not necessarily the last,” Wingefors added.
In other related news to Embracer Group on Thursday, it was revealed that Crystal Dynamics involvement in The Initiative’s Perfect Dark remake is progressing in its favor. The team shares that development is coming along nicely following disappointing reports of internal leadership being malicious to employees. You can read the full report by healing here.
