Since the global pandemic, efforts to reboot the Resident Evil franchise in live-action has not landed thus far. In 2021, the film ‘Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City’ offered a promising adaptation of the series in its promotion, but when releasing in theaters has left fans underwhelmed to say the least.
Additionally, Netflix also took a jab at live-action Resident Evil. After success with The Witcher, Resident Evil could be the next major franchise on the streamer. However, the TV series ended up performing similarly to the film before it. Enough that the reception for the first season dismantled any chances for a second season to come after it.
Recently, The Hollywood Reporter has gathered that a new reboot is in the works. As of reporting, the film is currently in the crosshairs of Warner Bros, Netflix, and two other unnamed studios. Alike prior Resident Evil pictures before it, Constantin Films will produce the new reboot for Resident Evil. Alongside it, PlayStation Productions will also be attached to produces as well.
Behind the scenes, it is understood that Zach Cregger is pinned to direct. Cregger known for his acting in shows like The Whitest Kids U’Know earned his director moniker with the surprising release with Barbarian. Next to him, Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 4, Army of the Dead) will also be involved to pen the script for this new Resident Evil reboot. Details on casting has yet to be disclosed.
Among its new effort to recenter Resident Evil, Capcom also has plans for another one of its franchises on the silver screen. Previously, it was announced that a live-action Street Fighter film is on the way at Legendary Pictures & Sony Pictures. It plans to release in March 2026. You can read report by heading here.
